ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERING

As soon as I heard Lynne talking about the Avon Valley Project on a zoom seminar during lockdown, I knew I wanted to find a way to get involved. The project aims to link habitats and landowners along the River Avon from its source on Dartmoor to its mouth at Bantham in order to improve the connectivity for its wildlife.

Lynne’s knowledge and passion was infectious and the concept of the project hugely inspired me so I decided to be brave and ping her an email.

‘I’m never happier than when I’m wandering about in the countryside identifying things, I make a great cup of tea and I would really love to work with you’, I wrote. ‘Your timing is perfect’, came the reply and I quickly found myself involved in a really special project working alongside a hugely inspiring woman.

At the moment, amongst other things, my role involves wandering through wildflower meadows identifying flowers, grasses, insects and anything else I can find. What’s not to love! Lucky, lucky me.
